Project Description

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has significant institution strengths in engineering and sustainable agriculture and a long history of very close collaboration with WiSys on innovation and technologies that can drive economic development. Additionally, we are a partner institution along with UW-Madison and UW-River Falls in the Dairy Innovation Hub, which seeks to address the dairy industry’s many needs, many of which are closely associated with sustainability.

For this grant we will be leveraging and enhancing existing plans to build a Dairy Pilot Plant and Training Center (DPPTC) on our campus that can serve as a unique testbed for sustainable dairy activities with partners across the state. Additionally, we will be developing plans to connect activities in our new state-of-the-art Huff Family Innovation Center makerspace to the DPPTC, allowing prototypes from innovators across the state to be built in the Innovation Center and tested in the DPPTC. Additionally, we will be approaching all of this with a keen sense of the importance of ensuring that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are integrated into all the planning. This work will set the stage for the DPPTC to serve as a key piece of a functioning NSF Engine in the future.
